Marine Surveys~ Our surveys consist of the following:
1.) In the water inspection~ Start up of all electronics, boat systems, bilge pumps, navigation lights, checking of flares, lifesaving equipment, life vests, safety equipment, firefighting systems, galley appliances and all other miscellaneous boat systems on board. When a Sea Trial is not required main engine(s) are started and observed for a period of 15-30 minutes, brought to full rpm and referenced against manual settings. Generator(s) are started and put under sufficient load and observed for a similar amount of time. All inspections are done under the guidance of USCG FR Sub chapter 46 and 33, NFPA and ABYC Standards
2.) Haul out ~ Hull and running gear inspection, in this part of the process it is necessary to schedule with the local shipyard a haul out, normally the vessel can be left in the “slings” for the duration of the inspection. The hull is sounded and checked for any soft spots, signs of delamination or damaged areas. Running gear is given a visual inspection, cutlass bearings checked, propellers checked ,struts, shafts, zincs and bottom paint condition in addition to any signs of excessive galvanic corrosion.
3.) Sea trial~ At the dock~ main engine(s) are started and observed for excess smoke, vibration, any irregularity from normal operation. Motors are brought to full rpm and referenced against service manual settings. Generator(s) are started and observed and put under full load, observed for any irregularities from normal operation. If all is well the vessel is taken into open water for a trial run. In increments of 2-500 rpm the motors are brought up to full throttle where it is run for a period of 5 mins, observing all gauges and motor functions, that the engines stay within the designated parameters per the service manual for temp, oil pressure, exhaust smoke, vibration, and any other signs that show something out of the norm.In the event we observe a situation that warrants further investigation it will be recommended to proceed with a full mechanical survey performed by a certified mechanic.
